First-time backer?

Are you a first-time backer on Kickstarter?

Cool! Welcome to the world’s largest crowdfunding platform!

Kickstarter has helped thousands of indie; ultra-cool projects find their way into the world! Go on, dive in and take a look around… you will definitely find a project that tickles your fancy!

Ok, here you are, you just bumped onto a project that you want to support! And now, what?

Take your time and look carefully at all the details of the campaign that you liked! You will notice that every campaign has a story section, dealing with what is this project, how it came to be…DO study the campaign you plan to support! The most important thing in a campaign is the number on the top right of your screen. This is the funding goal. In simple words, this is how much money the creator needs to get the project through production. If the campaign is live, you can see how much money has been collected up to now, how many backers does this campaign have, and how many days are left for completion.

Right below the funding goal is where things get interesting… These are the pledge levels, different levels of support, that the project creator chooses to offer. But, beware! Kickstarter is not a marketplace, it is a funding platform. Meaning, you do not buy anything, you support a creator! In exchange for your support, you get something back. This is why pledge levels range from a mere 1 $ or 1 € or 1 £, to vertigo-inducing heights. For each pledge level, the creator commits that you will get something back after the project reaches its funding goal. This “something back” can range from the creators’ gratitude, a finished product, or …Who knows, creators are strange creatures…one might promise to erect a huge mural in the center square of his hometown with your face on it! Every project is different, so what you get in exchange for your support is very clearly defined right below the pledge level alongside the delivery time of that specific pledge.

So there you go, pledge away at the level you prefer… A mere euro or your life’s savings, this is entirely up to you. If you think the mural is a good idea, who are we to judge! And don’t forget, even the lowest pledges mean so very much to creators! Someone believes in them and their vision… and this is priceless! Kickstarter will help you complete the process in a few steps!

Congratulations! You are now a first-time backer!!!!

Oh, my dear first-time backer…Kickstarter is a big family… Take your time and study the campaign that interests you. Look carefully at the team members, search their websites and profiles. DO NOT support a project that fails to convince you of its viability. Soon, you will notice that most of Kickstarter campaigns are not faceless! There are real people behind each and every project, and all of them are determined to turn their idea into reality!

The more money past the funding goal, the more goodies seem to come my way? Why is that?

Oh, dear first-time backer…We, creators, tend to love our projects, we would never ever take money away from them…What we do with the extra cash, is use it to improve on our core project. How is this possible? Simple, by making more pieces, manufacturing costs go down, and all the extra money are put into delivering a much plusher product! This is why, the more money is collected in a campaign, the better the product you are going to get delivered, on the very same pledge level you chose!

Τhis calls for attention! Most projects (but not all) charge shipping after the campaign ends. Shipping costs are explained in the campaign, BUT in most cases these are estimates. No one can know beforehand how many stretch goals will be reached. That is why most projects use a pledge manager, a very useful tool, which will inform you of the exact shipping costs, post-campaign! And yes, if you do not like what you hear, you can draw back anytime! Yes, cool, we know!

But the most important of all is that Kickstarter, in contrast to other crowdfunding platforms goes for the “all or nothing” motto. If the funding goal is not reached, you don’t get charged, and the creator goes back to the drawing board. Practically, that means that you don’t support a project in the hope that it gets funding and you will get something back in return. YOU KNOW that if a project succeeds, then what was promised will be delivered to you. If not, you will not be charged a penny! How cool is that?

Now you know why we are so excited! Kickstarter has finally opened up to creators from Greece, Slovenia and Poland, so we can’t wait to see what neat projects will come through!

And of course, our very first project, Trivia Obscura™ +Do you know Darkness?+, the board game that allows you to bask in the glory of your dark existence and… rub your poser friends’ noses in it, will be live on the 29th of October 2020!

You can support our campaign here:

…and we hope that if you choose us for your very first Kickstarter pledge, it will be the first of many many – many campaigns and beautiful ideas that you helped to make a reality! It is a really nice feeling, isn’t it?

Welcome to Kickstarter!!!

Backing Weekend 5: Results, thoughts & mistakes!

*Wow! What a race!!*

This backing Weekend has exceeded all expectations: It turned out to be an amazing competition, were hundreds of people participated in the process and voted to support their favorite project in Kickstarter.  Let’s have a closer look:

The process:

Four non – funded yet Kickstarter board games were chosen (the process of choosing the games can be found in this blog entry of our journal:  After making the blog entry, we created a facebook event to hold the poll. The event was automatically set up to start at December 2   6:30 PM and end at December 4  at 9 PM, CE time (you can see the details here). After running the facebook event, we contacted all 4 project creators letting them know of the voting process. The poll with the details of all 4 projects was also promoted in THE BOARDGAME GROUP of facebook on Saturday, twitted a few times during the weekend and for the first time, posted in reddit, in the CrowdfundedBoardgames Subreddit (Which actually got a very good rank during the weekend).

The amazing race:

The competition started on a very dynamic pace on Friday evening. All four projects started to participate and share our poll with their friends and communities. By Saturday, nearly a hundred people had participated in the voting process, with Philanthropy taking the lead. Shintiara followed, receiving loads of love from its fans (we got a lot of messages explaining what an amazing game it is and why it should be supported). On Sunday, Shintiara made a powerful comeback, steadily winning grounds over Philanthropy.  By 5 PM on Sunday the agony had reached a peak! Philanthropy had more than a hundred supporting votes, but less than 10 votes separated it from Shintiara, which was steadily winning ground!  At this point we made a tweet and a facebook post, wanted to motivate all 4 projects to peak their support to their chosen games the remaining 4 hours! The motivation actually worked and Shintiara made an overthrow: it took the lead! At 9 PM sharply, we looked at the results of this AMAZING thrilling race: 128 votes for Shintiara, 124 votes for Philanthropy, 9 votes for Meducational and 9 votes for Monkeys On Your Back. Wow! We took notes, shut down our computers and went to sleep still smiling, satisfied with the great participation of this Backing Weekend.

The Thoughts:

This was a great Weekend for all of us. We made a lot of new friends, we met people with whom we share common interests, we discovered great projects, we had great anticipation, we felt motivated, we wanted to spread creativity and support around the world and most of all, we had loads of FUN. Which actually brings us to the initial thought: that is what self – publishing your games and crowdfunding is all about: connecting with people, supporting your communities (and your communities supporting you in return), being creative all the way through and enjoying the process every moment, at every step. It feels nice!

The Big mistake:

Monday morning facebook was waiting with a small surprise for us: the poll was NOT automatically locked after the event was over! People kept on voting during the night, supporting and sharing their favorite games with the public. And when we say that people supported their games we mean A LOT of people showed A LOT of love! Monday at 10 AM, Philanthropy has reached 198 votes, Shintiara 141, Meducational 12 and Monkeys On Your Back 9 votes! That is a total of 360 votes!! Wow and Oooops! At the same time!

The Results:

Officially, Shintiara is the Great Winner! By the time the event ended (9 PM) the game had managed to make an impressive turn over, giving the thrills to all of us, till the very last minute! Wow guys! Great game! Great work! Thank you for this amazing race, we hope that you enjoyed it as much as we did!!!

Not locking the poll manually was our mistake. And as it turned out, a mistake that made a difference, since Philanthropy turned out to be an unbelievably loved game! It would be unfair to overlook the fact that 100 people voted overnight in order to help this project come alive. That is a lot of love! People, you have an extremely supportive community! How can you call it a loose?

Come on! You know the answer! You know who the winner is! Christmas is coming! Open up your hearts! With 360 people voting in a single Weekend, our beloved Gaming Community is the Great Winner! We want to bring our community a little closer, spread a word of motivation and fill the stores with Independent, self – published board games that make our world a bit of a better place to be and people a little happier (or a little smarter)! So, both Shintiara & Philanthropy will be equally supported from our side. And since Santa wants us to be generous and make people happy, Monkeys On Your Back and Meducational will also receive a Christmas symbolic supporting pledge. It was a Wow – everything – is – possible – Weekend after all!!

*  Big Hug  * to all 4 projects! Wish you the best, and see you next backing weekend! 😉

Backing Weekends 5

We have decided to back a different Kickstarter Project every week.
All projects have to be from the board games category and they have to be in the not funded yet category. HELP US CHOOSE…

Christmas is approaching and we want to cheer up, open up our hearts,  try to build a better world for all of us. Or, if we can’t make it; visit another world for a while! As  Philip K. Dick said, “if you think this Universe is bad, you should see some of the others”! What options do we have this week?

philanthropy board game

First of all, can you think of a better way to welcome the Christmas spirit than Philanthropy? We love it!

Philanthropy: The Social Justice Game

Take a stand for poverty, slavery, and more, play a game unlike any other, and help change the world, one card at a time.

shintiara board game

After paying our duty to this world, what would you say about visiting a fantasy world with strong science-fiction elements, where players are called upon to live incredible adventures and to question themselves on the nature of the universe? Thumbs up!

Shintiara RPG: a world of Magic and Time Paradoxes

A Tabletop Role-playing Game on the Event Horizon, where Time is broken and Magic blends with Technology. Experience the Timewarp!

meducational board game

Ok, this has nothing to do with the Christmas spirit, but it has a lot to do with the Kickstarter spirit: A medical student, felt inundated with the countless facts that she needed to learn, so found a fun way of improving knowledge for all medical students or people in the medical field. We like well informed medics, we like indie projects on KS, we support!

Meducational – Bring out the medic in you!

Bring some fun and laughter to medicine!

monkeys on your back board game

As a kid I remember writing letters to Santa every year, asking for a board game about Addicted Monkeys. I got a bicycle, a puppy, lots of candies, but never a board game about Addicted Monkeys. Now is the time that I can finally make my childhood dream come true and support this brilliant project on KS! No more puppies Mr. Santa!

Monkeys On Your Back

Monkeys On Your Back is a card game that you have to defeat Addicted Monkeys who will try to make you fall into temptation.

Second Backing Weekend: Results and thoughts!

This weeks’ backing weekends drew to a close. With 34 votes Berghain was a clear winner.

succesful backing

The process:

Similar to last week we put up an event on our facebook page and spread the word as much as possible throughout the weekend by posting in relevant  facebook groups, tweeting around the competition and posting in our timeline.

The thoughts:

This week’s poll made me think about the importance of social media when running a Kickstarter campaign. It is vastly important to be alert and ready to motivate your audience 24/7 during your campaign. No matter how good your project is you must make sure people know about it and what better way of doing that than a strong presence in all the social media channels. You as the creator know who your target audience is, so let them know that you are here.

Thanks to all participants and may all 4 wonderful projects get to their funding goal.

See you next backing weekend! 😉
